No. 19 Tigers Win Shootout After Tie at Miami

Philippe Blais-Savoie scored a pair of power-play goals and Kaidan Mbereko had 32 saves for No. 19 Colorado College as the Tigers and Miami skated to a 3-3 tie Saturday night in Oxford, Ohio.

Neither team scored in overtime for the second straight night, thanks in part to Mbereko making an outstanding save in the final five seconds of overtime. On Saturday, the Tigers (8-7-3, 2-5-3 NCHC) captured the extra point in the standings as Bret Link was the only player to score in the shootout.

The RedHawks (10-6-2, 2-6-2 NCHC) struck first for the second consecutive night as Doug Grimes scored just 1:59 into the contest.

The Tigers roared back with a pair of goals to take the lead. Colton Roberts notched the second of his career with a wrist shot from the high slot that cleanly beat Miami goalie Matteo Drobac (32 saves) at the 4:09 mark, then Blais-Savoie put CC ahead with his second of the season, a power-play blast from the right circle, at 8:06 of the first period.

Grimes notched his second goal and evened the game at the 4:59 mark of the second period by deflecting a shot from Michael Quinn past Mbereko on a Miami power play.

The RedHawks regained the lead when Kocha Delic took a cross-ice pass from Quinn and scored into an open net at 11:52 of the middle frame.

Blais-Savoie collected his second power-play goal of the contest to make it 3-3 at the 7:08 mark of the third period. He took a pass from Tomas Mrsic at the Miami blue line, skated towards the boards and beat Drobac again from the right circle for his first-career two-goal game. Mrsic assisted on Blais-Savoie's first goal as well for his second multi-point game of the season.

Each team had 35 shots on Saturday. The Tigers were 2-for-5 on the power play, while Miami was just 1-for-7.

The Tigers return to action just after the New Year with a weekend series at Augustana, Jan. 2-3, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
