Last Time Out
No. 20 Colorado College split a pair of games at No. 16 North Dakota last weekend ... On Friday, Klavs Veinbergs scored two power-play goals and added an assist to lead the Tigers to a 6-4 victory. Veinbergs, who posted his first career multi-goal game, put the Tigers up 1-0 with a power-play goal at the 8:02 mark of the first period. North Dakota evened things up late in the first period when Jayden Perron took a one-timer from the left circle that CC netminder Kaidan Mbereko got a piece of but the puck snuck behind him with 21.6 seconds remaining in the frame. Dylan James put the Fighting Hawks ahead 2-1 with a rebound goal just 3:03 into the second period, but Gleb Veremyev made it 2-2 with his team-high eighth goal of the season at 16:45 of the middle frame. Veinbergs notched his second goal of the game at the 12:35 mark of the third period with a rocket from the right circle, then team captain Stanley Cooley scored 14 seconds later and all of a sudden it was 4-2. UND's Jake Livanavage scored with an extra attacker at the 15:08 mark and it was a one-goal game once again. CC's leading scorer, Noah Laba, deposited the game-winner with three minutes remaining when he deflected Ty Gallagher's shot past UND goalie Hobie Hedquist for his eighth of the season. James scored his second of the contest with 1:25 remaining, once against with Hedquist on the bench, but Gallagher was credited with an empty-net goal with 30 seconds remaining when a UND player sent the puck the length of the ice into their own net ... On Saturday, Carter Wilkie had a goal and an assist to lead UND to a 3-1 victory. North Dakota struck first at the 5:34 mark of the second period. Mac Swanson, son of former CC great Brian Swanson, collected the puck at the top of the slot in the CC end and sent a pass to Ben Strinden, who beat CC goalie Carsen Musser from the right circle. Andrew Strathman doubled the home team's lead just 1:08 into the third period when his shot from the left point got past Musser, who seemed to be shielded from the shot. Grand Forks native Drew Montgomery cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 7:05 mark of the third period, but Wilkie put the game away with an empty-net goal with 1:23 remaining in the third period.
