No. 21 Tigers Roar Past Mountaineers

The No. 21 Colorado College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to 11 straight with a convincing 75-53 win over Schreiner on Friday evening at Reid Arena. 
 
CC had three players reach double-digits and shot 47.4 percent from long range. Senior Zoë Tomlinson notched another double-double with 20 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and four steals. 
 
Sophomore Isa Nelson racked up 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Junior Avery Johnson added 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal. CC forced 12 turnovers and recorded seven steals. 
 
Senior Kyle Rowland scored a career-high nine points and dished a season-high five rebounds and three assists. 
 
Tomlinson nearly had a double-double by the end of the first quarter. The New York native led the team with 10 points and eight rebounds as CC led 20-15 at the end of the opening frame. 
 
CC shot 61.54 percent in the first, but Schreiner remained within five heading into the second. In the second. The Mountaineers shot only 35.29 percent from the floor, but CC made only 37.50 of their field shots, keeping the game close at 37-30 at the break. Senior Kyle Rowland hit a buzzer-beater shot and got fouled to allow the Tigers to go up by seven at the half, thanks to the three-point play.  
 
In the third, CC went on a 15-8 run capped by a Rowland three-pointer and a pair of Tomlinson layups to make it 52-38 with 4:50 remaining. CC drilled five of seven three-point attempts in the quarter and held the Mountaineers to only 38.89 percent from the floor. 
 
Nelson led the team with two threes in the quarter and six points. The Tigers increased the lead to as many as 16 and led 62-47 heading into the fourth. 
 
After the onslaught from long range in the third quarter, CC focused inside the arc and at the charity stripe to close the game. The Tigers shot 5-6 from the free-throw line in the fourth and didn't let the lead get cut within as few as 13 points. 
 
Six Tigers scored in the final 10 minutes, and CC cruised to the 75-53 win. CC is a perfect 12-0 at home and 14-1 in SCAC play. 
 
CC outrebounded Schreiner 45-36 and had 22 assists compared to SU's eight. Kayla Mackel finished with a season-high of three blocks, nine points, five boards, and four assists. Laura Strenk added three rebounds and seven assists. 
 
The Tigers have already clinched the No.1 spot in the Blue Division as it closed out the regular season against Trinity on Sunday at noon MT.
