No. 20 Tigers Fall Short at St. Cloud State

Barrett Hall scored twice and added an assist to lead St. Cloud State to a 4-2 victory over No. 20 Colorado College Saturday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Austin Burnevik added a goal and an assist as the Huskies snapped a four-game losing streak and 11-game winless skid to improve to 12-17-1 overall and 5-14-1 in the NCHC. The Tigers, who had won their previous three games and six of their last eight, fell to 17-14-1 and 11-10-1 and remain in sixth place in the league standings.

Hall scored his two goals within the first 10 minutes of the game. He opened the scoring at the 3:23 mark when a pass from behind the net by Austin Burnevik was deflected and went right to Hall, who best CC goaltender Kaidan Mbereko from the doorstep.

During a power play later in the period, it appeared the Huskies had taken a 2-0 lead, but CC challenged for an offside call and the goal was overturned. However, just after the penalty expired at the 9:33 mark, Hall put in a rebound from in front after Mbereko saved a shot by Daimon Gardner.

Hall then started a play that culminated in a goal from Burnevik after he took a drop pass from Verner Miettinen at 16:49 of the opening frame.

Fisher Scott put the Tigers on the board at the 3:30 mark of the second period with a shot from the left point that found its way through traffic and past SCSU goalie Isak Posch. Gleb Veremyev collected an assist on the play.

The Huskies regained their three-goal lead with a tally by Gavyn Thoreson at 8:14, then Zaccharya Wisdom made it 4-2 at the 12:36 mark when he deflected a shot from the point by Ethan Straky past Posch.

Neither team scored the rest of the way as Posch finished with 42 saves, while Mbereko had 16. The Tigers outshot SCSU, 44-20, including a 32-8 margin in the final two periods. CC also held a dominating 45-25 advantage in faceoffs.

The Tigers are idle next weekend and will return to action on Friday, March 7 against Denver at Magness Arena, starting at 7 p.m.
