The No. 21 Colorado College women's basketball team lost to Texas Lutheran 63-57 Saturday in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinals.
Â
CC attempted a second-half comeback by outscoring TLU 35-27 in the half, but a strong start by the Bulldogs was too much in the end.Â
Â
The Tigers (23-3) will await a potential at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament.Â
Â
Senior
Zoë Tomlinson led the team with 20 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals. Junior
Kayla Mackel followed with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal.Â
Â
TLU held CC to only 32.8 percent shooting while making 43.9 percent of its shots from the floor. The Bulldogs had four players score in double-digits.Â
Â
CC trailed 20-14 at the end of the first quarter after shooting 27.78 percent from the floor. The Tigers' offensive woes continued into the second quarter, as they made only three shots in the frame and trailed 36-22 at the break.Â
Â
The Tiger offense picked up in the third, with Tomlinson scoring 10 points and grabbing three boards. CC cut the lead to five with 2:47 remaining in the quarter, but TLU responded with a pair of buckets.
Avery Johnson drilled a three-pointer with 43 seconds remaining to bring CC back within six and trailed 49-43 heading into the final frame.Â
Â
Tomlinson converted on a tip-in off an offensive board to start the quarter, slimming the lead to four, but that's the closest CC managed to get of the lead as TLU pulled away in the final minutes and held on for the eventual 63-57 win.Â
Â
CC will wait until Monday, March 3, for the NCAA selection show, which is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. MT.Â
