Murphy's Career-High Five Goals Fuels No. 19 CC Past Claremont

Peyton Murphy scored a career-high five goals and No. 19 Colorado College scored the final five goals of the game as the Tigers' women's lacrosse team defeated Claremont Mudd-Scripps, 16-11, in the 2025 season opener.
 
Murphy added three assists for a personal-best eight points while Sofia Mancino and Charlotte Iler each added three goals and Cassidy Schnauffer made 12 saves.
 
The game was back-and-forth in the first half, with the teams tied at 3-3 after the first quarter and 7-7 at halftime. A goal by Claremont's Summer Matsik put the Athenas ahead 7-4 with 6:10 remaining in the second quarter, but the Tigers responded with goals from Meilani Molina, Mancino and Murphy to pull even at the break.
 
After Ella Broan gave Claremont an 11-10 lead with 10:12 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Tigers roared back with five straight goals to clinch the victory. Mancino started the action by tying it up with 7:08 left in the game, followed by goals from Iler, Molina, Grace Bean, Murphy and Mancino with the final goal with 1:42 left in the contest.
 
Schnauffer made a couple of outstanding point-blank saves in the fourth quarter, one on Maya Mihara with 5:20 left and one on Kaia Scott with 3:00 remaining, to seal the win.
 
Matsik joined Grace Minturn, Maggie Griffis and Amelia Ulmer with a team-high two goals apiece for Claremont (3-2), while goalie Holly Shankle made eight saves. Julia Ryan was 29 of 31 on draw controls on Sunday.
 
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 8, against the University of Chicago in Chicago, Ill., beginning at 1 p.m. (CT).
