With a minute left in the first overtime period, sophomore
Matt Hudson found the back of the net for his third goal of the day and the game-winner as Colorado College took down UMass Boston 14-13 in OT.
"This one is for the seniors," head coach
Mike Horowitz said. "Their dedication to the program is elite, and they've left the program in a better place than they found it.
Hudson, along with freshman
Max Vota, led the team with five points. Hudson finished with three goals, two assists, six shots, and two ground balls. Vota scored a team-high four goals and added an assist and a career-high seven ground balls.
CC led 11-10 going into the fourth quarter. The Beacons took a 12-11 lead with 7:12 remaining after scoring consecutive goals. The Tigers responded less than a minute later when Vota tied the game up at 12-12. Thirty-four seconds after the ensuing faceoff,
Liam Goodwin scored his sixth goal of the season and put CC in front 13-12 with 5:44 remaining.
UMass Boston was able to tie the game up again with 3:10 left in regulation. The game went into overtime; both teams were limited in their shot opportunities as CC held the Beacons to only one shot in the extra period. The Tigers had three shots, including the last one Hudson had to seal the game after an assist from Goodwin.
CC jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the start of the first quarter while keeping UMass Boston off the scorebook. In the second, the Becons responded with three unanswered goals to tie it up with 8:33 left in the half.
Vota and
Karsten Nyarady gave CC the lead again, and the teams traded goals for the rest of the half. At the break, the Tigers led 8-6.
The third quarter had much of the same pendulum momentum. UMass Boston tied the game at 9-9. The Beacons outscored the Tigers 4-3 in the third, but CC led by one heading into the final frame.
UMass Boston forced OT with three minutes to play, but Hudson's late OT goal elevated the Tigers to end the regular season on a high note.
