No. 15 Tigers Soar Past Eagles To Reach WIAC Championship Game

Three Tigers racked up hat tricks as the No. 15 Colorado College women's lacrosse team routed the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse 17-6 in the semifinals of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
 
CC improved to 17-3 and is one win away from tying the program record for wins in a season (18) it set in 2019 in route to the best win percentage in team history and an NCAA Tournament birth. 
 
Senior Peyton Murphy led the team with five points, three goals and two assists. Sophomore Charlotte Iler followed with three goals and an assist, and Meilani Molina finished with three goals. 
 
The Tigers outshot the Eagles 33-20, including 23-11 shots on goal. Tobin Lonergan and Sofia Mancino finished with two goals and an assist and Grace Bean added two goals. 
 
Lonergan is 12 points away from surpassing Annie DeFrino for second in the all-time program points list. 
 
Sofia Mancino scored the game's first goal a minute and seven seconds after the initial draw control. Iler followed up with back-to-back goals to make it 3-0 with 12:20 remaining. Freshman Riley Sterling scored her 12th goal of the year with 9:36 left in the quarter, but La Crosse answered to end the CC run. 
 
Junior Grace Bean. Molina and Murphy countered with three more CC goals to put the Tigers up 7-1 at the end of the first. 
 
CC's scoring streak continued into the second, adding four more from Iler, Molina and Lonergan. Molina and Lonergan had two goals in the second quarter as CC ballooned its lead to 12-2 by the half. 
 
La Crosse struck first in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 12-3 with 14:16 remaining before Bean scored her second goal on an unassisted effort. With the running clock, CC carried the 13-3 lead into the fourth quarter. 
 
Murphy found the back of the net for the second time with 11:35 remaining in the game to give CC its biggest lead of the day: 11. The two teams traded goals, but the Eagles managed to score consecutively to cut the lead down to 15-6. 
 
In the final minute, freshman Emilia Calamari scored, followed by Murphy completing her hat trick with seven seconds left in the game. 
 
The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at 5:30 pm MT.
