Tigers Fall To Bulls In Buffalo

The Colorado College women's soccer team fell to the University at Buffalo on Thursday night by a final score of 1-0. CC (1-1-1) fell behind in the opening minutes despite good looks down the stretch.

Sophomore forward Finley Schoenbeck and defender Jessica Anderson led the team with three shots each. Anderson had yet to take a shot in her first eight collegiate games, but she ended Thursday with three, including one on target.

"We put in a hard-fought battle against a tough and organized Buffalo team," head coach Keri Sanchez said. "Bummer to lose two players early in the game to cuts to the head, but the team rebounded and played well after giving up the goal."

Buffalo outshot CC 15-11, including 7-5 on target. Goalkeeper Regan Wallace finished with five saves. The Tigers had four corner kicks compared to the Bulls' one.

UB struck first in the seventh minute when Adriana Victoriano took a shot towards the top center of the goal. Wallace was able to get a touch on the ball; however, it was not enough as it found the back of the net to give UB a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers' first formal attack came in the 14th minute when sophomore Nadia Cassamajor laced a shot at Buffalo goalkeeper Lexie Thompson, who made the save.

CC led in shots 2-1 halfway through the first after Anderson and Tyler Rose both aimed at the net, to tie and equalize the game. It was Anderson's first career shot.

Buffalo took two more shots before the end of the half and led 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, UB came out swinging, firing off the three shots in two minutes before Anderson collected another shot in the 54th minute. The teams would trade blows for the next 10 minutes, with Finley Schoenbeck and Kendall Memoly each taking a shot. Memoly's was on target and saved by Thompson.

Senior Kylie Smith recorded her first shot at the 73rd minute, followed by senior Emily Hitt, whose shot was saved by the Buffalo goalkeeper. Schoenbeck followed with back-to-back shots of her own in the 79th and 82nd minutes.

Buffalo limited the CC offense in the final minutes as it rode out the remaining time to seal the 1-0 victory.

"We felt we did everything but that last piece of finishing a chance," Sanchez said. "We will continue to grind to figure out ways to win."

The Tigers fall to 1-1-1 on the season but will look to bounce back on Sunday when they take on Canisius University (0-2) at 10 am MT in Buffalo, N.Y.
