Tigers Shutout Griffins, Memoly Records Another Brace

Behind another two-goal performance from junior midfielder Kendall Memoly and another stellar outing from junior goalkeeper Regan Wallace, the Colorado College women's soccer team shut out Canisius College 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Memoly hadn't had a brace in her first two years at CC. Now through four games, she has two, both in key road victories.

Wallace had a career-high seven saves and faced 13 shots. It's the second shutout of the season for the Rancho Cucamonga native.

With the shutout, the Tigers have allowed only two goals through the first four games; it's the least amount given up for the program since the 2013 season.

"I'm excited for the team to earn another road win after two hard-fought games this weekend," head coach Keri Sanchez said. "We started a little slow, but gained confidence as the game went along and we put one away before the end of the half. Then, we played the second half with a lot of confidence and energy to score again and keep the shutout."

CC played 42 minutes of scoreless soccer with Canisius before Memoly found the back of the net in the 43rd minute. Sophomore Nadia Cassamajor rifled a shot in from outside the box that the Canisius goalkeeper deflected. Waiting in the midst was Memoly, who scored her third goal of the year right before the half.

Cassamajor got credited with the assist, her second of the season.

The Tigers were outshot 9-3 at the break, but two of their shots were on target, including Memoly's goal.

In the second half, CC picked up right where they left off, attacking the net. Cassamajor lasered another good-looking shot from the far-left side of the net that the Canisius goalkeeper had to punch out of the way. Sophomore Jessica Anderson advanced to push it back in the box, which was blocked, but right to the awaiting Memoly.

Anderson logged the assist on the second Memoly goal, her first career point. She finished the game with a shot and 70 minutes played.

Memoly sneaked it past the remaining Golden Griffins to give CC the 2-0 lead in the 46th minute. She finished the game with a game-high four shots, all on target and played 70 minutes.

Freshman Sophia Mayne and sophomore Finley Schoenbeck followed with two shots apiece. It was the first two career shots for Mayne. Her first came in the 55th minute and the second in the 57th minute, which was on target but was saved.

CC dominated the second half, racking up 12 shots while holding the Griffins to only four. Half of the Tigers' shots were on target.

The Tigers in the end outshot Canisius 15-13, including 9-7 shots on goal. CC took a season-high nine corner kicks while holding the Griffins to none. Canisius was also called for offside on six occasions.

CC returns home next Sunday, Aug. 31, to host the University of Texas, San Antonio at Stewart Field. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT.
