No. 20 CC Shuts out DePauw in Season Opener

The No. 20 Colorado College men's soccer team routed DePauw University 3-0 to open the 2025 campaign in Wheaton, Ill. In the opening day of the Bob Baptista Invitational, the Tigers were led by goals from senior Rex Karjian, sophomore Teddy Opler and freshman Ewen Robertson

"Our young team performed well today," head coach Scott Palguta said.  "We have a lot of new faces to integrate, and our preseason was very short, but we competed at a high level and stuck together from start to finish.  I can't complain about three goals and a shutout on opening day!"

CC (1-0) went up in the 12th minute after senior midfielder Luke Stefanski launched a ball from midfield to Karjian, who made a move past a DePauw defender and the goalkeeper to put CC up 1-0 early in the first half.

The Tigers outshot DePauw 12-6, including 7-3 in the opening half. CC didn't surrender a shot on target while putting up five of its own. Karjian, Opler and freshman Whit Hynes led the team with two shots each.

In the second half at the 49th minute, Opler scored after Hynes took a shot from outside the box, which the goalkeeper deflected, but Opler was there for the follow-up and rebound and put the ball in the back of the net.

It's the first career point for Hynes as he finished the game with two shots, one shot on goal, and 63 minutes in net.

Hynes wasn't the only freshman to get on the stat sheet. Late in the second half, junior Jack Hilliard took a corner kick in the 85th minute and found the back post. Ewen Roberston played clean up and headed the ball in for his first career goal.

Robertson played 46 minutes in his collegiate debut.

CC outshot DePauw 5-3 in the second half and cruised to the eventual 3-0 shutout victory. Goalkeeper Alex Wolter collected another career shutout and didn't have to make a save as the Tigers' defense shut down the DePauw offense.

The Tigers will continue the weekend with a matchup against host Wheaton College on Saturday at 6 pm MT. The Thunder defeated Chapman University 4-2 on Friday evening.
