Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Athletic Communications

CC Downs Carroll, Finish Non-Conference Play Unbeaten

The men's soccer team shut out Carroll College in their last non-conference matchup this afternoon on the way to a 2-0 win. Sophomore Teddy Opler and Freshman Ewen Roberston found the back of the net for the Tigers on the day, both off assists from Senior Captain Rex Karjian

Karjian tied his career high of two assists in a single game and now has six points this season, tied for second on the team.

Robertson finished with the goal, four shots, two on goal, and played 60 minutes. Opler had two shots, both on target and the game-winning goal.

Karjian played all 90 minutes, along with sophomore Jamie McFarland, junior Dylan Stapley and freshman Wilder Judelson.

Junior goalkeeper Alex Wolter tabbed his fourth shutout of the season after making one save against the Pioneers. Wolter improved his record on the year to 3-0-2 in net.

CC and Caroll tied for shots in the first half, each firing four, but the Tigers ran away with it in the second half, notching 11 shots to Caroll's five.

In the 17th minute, Opler received a nice pass from Karjian, who stole a transition ball from the Pioneers. Opler laced his shot to the top left corner of the net for his third goal of the season.

The Pioneers opened the second half with three shots in the first five minutes but couldn't convert.

Robertson put another one in for CC in the 61st, once again from Karjian. The goal is Robertson's fifth in his first six career games. He leads the team and is 18th in the country across NCAA DIII soccer in goals and has 10 points.

CC had the momentum for the rest of the game, taking eight unanswered shots. Robertson led all players with four shots.

The win brings the Tigers to 3-0-3 on the year and unbeaten through the first six games for the second consecutive year.

CC will take on the University of the Ozarks and Hendrix College on Stewart Field on September 26 and 28, respectively.
