Will Shuflit became the second Colorado College runner to win the school's home cross country meet in consecutive years and led 25th-ranked Colorado College to a second-place finish Saturday morning at the Ted Castaneda Classic at North Monument Valley Park.
Shuflit finished the 8K race in 24 minutes, 49.46 seconds, more than 15 seconds faster than runner-up Joseph White of Division I Air Force. Shuflit joins Jackson Brainerd (2008, '09) as the only back-to-back winners of the event from CC.
Senior
Axel Klomparens placed sixth with a time of 25:34.32, followed by sophomores
Vincent Mangat and
Diego Escalante in seventh and ninth, respectively.
Freshman
Lincoln Brewer rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with an 11th-place result.
"This was another encouraging day for us," head coach
Alex Nichols said. "After our season opener the team had a few weeks to put in some really solid training. We are still coming off from that big training block, but even with some fatigue, the squad has shown significant improvement over their performance at this meet last year."
The Tigers return to action at the Paul Short Run on Friday, Oct. 3 in Bethlehem, Pa.
