The Colorado College men's soccer team continued its undefeated season with a 7-0 win over SCAC newcomer Hendrix College on Saturday. The Tigers are 2-0 in conference play to start the season.
"The group played extremely well this weekend," head coach
Scott Palguta said. "Our level of maturity grew significantly and our squad depth is improving. No one hurt their case over the two games. Of course, all eyes go to the score sheet, but our team's defending was just as impressive as our attacking output."
Sophomore
Teddy Opler and freshman
Ewen Robertson both notched braces for the Tigers. Junior
Wyatt Linggi, senior
Luke Stefanski, and freshman
Whit Hynes also got on the board.
Robertson's two goals today bring him to a team-leading eight in eight games. Opler's sitting right behind him with six. The two also recorded assists on the day – Robertson had one and Opler had two. It's a career-high for most points in a game for the pair.
Linggi and Stefanski's goals were each of their first on the season, and Hynes' was the first of his career.
CC outshot Hendrix 23-6, including 14-2 on net. Robertson, Opler and Stefanski led the team with four shots each. Goalkeeper
Alex Wolter secured his sixth shutout of the season with two saves against the Warriors.
Opler opened the scoring with a left-footed shot to the bottom corner in the 11th minute off an assist from fellow sophomore
Griffin Scott.
Hendrix held the Tigers at bay for almost 20 minutes until Stefanski put one away in the 29th. Stefanski cut in from the right side and found Opler, who gave it right back for a shot just outside the six-yard box.
Robertson got in-behind for his first of the day, less than ten minutes later. Opler and Hynes recorded assists on the play.
He scored again just four minutes into the second half, thanks to a ball from junior midfielder
Zeke Lubin, and followed it up with an assist to Opler for his second of the day less than ten minutes later.
Linggi got in-behind in the 66th and put a left-footed shot past the Hendrix keeper off an assist from junior
Jack Hilliard.
Hynes scored CC's seventh and final goal, sending a right-footed shot into the far-right corner after picking the ball off an opposing defender.
The Tigers recorded their fifth-straight shutout, bringing them to six on the year.
They travel south to face SCAC opponents Centenary and St. Thomas next weekend on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
