Four Successful Alums Highlight CC’s 50th Anniversary of Women's Athletics Panel

Colorado College Athletics is excited to announce the panelists for a celebration of 50 Years of Women's Athletics at CC: A Legacy of Strength and Spirit, on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 3:45 p.m., in Reid Arena on the CC campus.

This special gathering will honor five decades of women's athletics at Colorado College. Emcee Jen Hoglin '91 (Women's Soccer) welcomes Karla Thompson '93 (Women's Soccer), Cassie Abel '05 (Women's Lacrosse), and Angie Taube '92, P'28 (Women's Soccer) to share stories of how their athletic experience at Colorado College shaped their personal and professional journeys. It is a chance to reconnect, reflect, and recognize the trailblazing spirit of CC women athletes and leaders — past and present.

All four panelists were inducted into the Colorado College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017, Hoglin, Thompson and Taube as members of the 1989 women's soccer team and Abel as an individual. In addition, Thompson will be receiving the Louis T. Benezet Alumni Award this weekend.

"We are excited for our yearlong celebration of 50 Years of Women's Athletics and this is an incredible way to kick it off," Director of Athletics Lesley Irvine said. "At CC we believe that Athletics, as part of the educational experience, sets you up for lifelong success. This esteemed panel represents this in so many ways and we are excited to celebrate and showcase them. We are so grateful that they are staying connected and engaged in our current campus community."

Hoglin, formerly Jen Rodi, is currently the Head of Marketing and Industry Engagement for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and a member of CC's Board of Trustees.

She had eight goals and six assists in 67 career games with the Tigers, helping CC to the NCAA Tournament all five years (she was injured in 1990), including the Championship Game as a junior in 1989.

Thompson is the Director of Youth Development for the National Women's Soccer League and a staff instructor for the U.S. Soccer Federation.

She is No. 3 on Colorado College's career scoring list with 86 points and 22 assists, and tied for third with 32 goals. She was a second-team All-America selection following her junior season in 1990.

She led the Tigers to the NCAA Division I championship game as a sophomore in 1989 and the semifinals each of her final two seasons.

Abel is the founder and operator of Wild Rye, a company that creates apparel to inspire more women to get outside.

A two-time first-team NCAA Division III All-America selection, she is No. 3 on CC's career goals list with 179. She was named the Division III Attacker of the Year in 2005 after recording 38 goals and 12 assists for 50 points. Abel, a third-team All-American pick as a sophomore in 2003, led the Tigers to the NCAA Division III semifinals as a senior in '05 and is fourth on CC's career scoring list with 239 points.

After a career on Wall Street and working in the tech space, Taube, formerly Angie Diaz, became a real estate developer building high end, custom residential homes. In addition, she leverages her love of finance to actively invest and trade in the markets.

Taube played in 62 games, scoring five goals and adding five assists, in her career at CC and advanced to the NCAA Division I quarterfinals as a freshman, the NCAA Championship Game as a sophomore and the semifinals as a junior and senior.
