Tigers Shutout Crusaders, But Settle For Draw

The Colorado College men's soccer team tied 0-0 with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field. CC (2-0-3) went unbeaten in its first homestead and outshot the Crusaders 6-4 on goal.

"Today was always going to be difficult, with it being our third game in four days and a quality opponent in UMHB," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We are really proud of the grit and determination the group showed today."

Freshman Ewen Robertson led the team with four shots, three SOG and played 82 minutes. Sophomore forward Teddy Opler followed with two shots and played 50 minutes.

Both teams battled for shots and possession in the first half. The Crusaders controlled the bulk of the offense, plastering off five shots compared to CC's two.

Junior Dylan Rich had the first shot on goal of the game for the Tigers, which came in the 31st minute.

The second half favored the Tigers offense in terms of shot volume. CC dished out 12 shots compared to UMHB's 10. Robertson put another shot on target in the 69th minute that was saved by Mack Elliot, the Crusader goalkeeper.

Roberson had another shot that was saved about 10 minutes later, and that was the last significant chance for CC's offense before the game went on a lightning delay with seven minutes remaining in the game.

After the 30-minute pause, the Tigers returned with a second wind and tried to force a game-winner with three looks on net from Wyatt Kimball, Robertson and Wyatt Linggi

Kimball's shot made it past the goalkeeper, but a Crusader defender was there to deflect the ball out before it crossed the goal line.

CC goalkeeper Alex Wolter made one final save in the 89th minute to seal the 0-0 tie and his third shutout of the year. Wolter finished with four saves.

The Tigers will host Carroll University on Saturday, Sept. 13th at 1 p.m. at Stewart Field to wrap up non-conference play.

"We were definitely under pressure at different times throughout the game, but we hung tough and even had a couple of fantastic looks at goal in the last few minutes.  No doubt, we grew as a team this weekend," Palguta said.
