Tyler Rose joined the club of Colorado College Tigers, who scored their first career goal this week. Rose decided to double down and score her first two career goals to lead CC to a 2-1 victory over Northern Colorado on Sunday afternoon.
Rose, a native of Huntington Beach, Calif., had five career points coming into Sunday's contest. She logged her two tallies against the Bears off a penalty kick in the 48th minute, then created her own scoring chance in the 68th minute to put the Tigers out in front.
I"'m proud of the group for working hard to get themselves back in the game after a slow start," head coach
Keri Sanchez said. "We're excited for
Tyler Rose to get her first career goal and then to follow it up with a game-winner in the same game."
The Bears outshot the Tigers 14-9, but six saves from goalkeeper
Regan Wallace kept the game in CC's favor. CC had six shots on goal, led by Rose's two.
Senior
Emma Smith had a season-high two shots, including one on net.
Kylie Smith also recorded a shot on goal.
CC fell behind 1-0 in the opening half after UNC's Sunnie Yarnell scored in the 10th minute. UNC outshot CC 7-4 in the half as goalkeeper
Regan Wallace made four saves.
In the second half, Rose drew a hard foul inside the UNC's box that drew the penalty. She then slotted the bottom right corner right past the Bears' keeper, Maddie Smith. It's the first penalty shot and conversion for the Tigers this season and the first since Oct. 1, 2023, against San Diego State.
With the newly found momentum, CC kept the pressure on with both Emma and
Kylie Smith logging shots before Rose made a move inside the box, turned her shoulders square towards the net, and found the left side open.
It's the third brace for a CC player this season; junior
Kendall Memoly has the other two.
The Tiger defense took over from there, limiting UNC to only four shots for the remainder of the game. Wallace made three saves to end the game.
CC ran the clock down from there to secure its third road win of the season, the most since the 2022 season.
The Tigers will wrap up non-conference play with a trip to Manhattan, Kan. to take on Kansas State on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. MT.
"The team is learning what it takes to compete at a high level consistently, and we hope to continue to improve in this area as we head into our last non-conference game at Kansas State," Sanchez said.
