No. 4 North Dakota Downs Tigers

Mats Lindgren scored the first two goals of his career for Colorado College Saturday night, but No. 4 North Dakota scored five unanswered goals to claim a 5-2 victory at Ed Robson Arena.

Cole Reschny and Dylan James each had a goal and an assist, while Jan Spunar had 19 saves for North Dakota (17-5-0, 9-3-0 NCHC).

Lindgren, who joined the Tiger program over the Winter Break, collected his first career goal to open the scoring at the 9:30 mark of the first period. Gavin Lindberg took the puck from behind the net to the right of Spunar and found Lindgren, who scored into the open net from the right circle.

It marked the first time in nine games, since the Nov. 21 contest vs. Minnesota Duluth, that the Tigers (9-10-3, 3-6-3 NCHC) scored the game's first goal.

James evened things up just 31 seconds into the second period with a power-play tally. Keaton Verhoff sent the puck from the left circle towards the far post and it deflected off James' skate past CC goalie Kaidan Mbereko.

Bennett Zmolek gave the Fighting Hawks the lead at 4:58 of the middle frame when he took a cross-ice pass from Reschny and put a shot from the right circle through Mbereko's legs.

The Fighting Hawks put the game away with three goals in the first 11:22 of the third period. Tyler Young scored at the 3:26 mark, followed by Abram Wiebe at 6:25 to make it 4-1.

After Jackson Unger replaced Mbereko at the 11:44 mark, Reschny notched UND's final tally when he scored on a rebound after Unger made a save on Ben Strinden.

Lindgren potted his second goal of the game at the 16:13 mark when Bret Link found him streaking down the left side and he beat Spunar with a wrister from the top of the left circle.

Mbereko finished with 20 saves, while Unger made five in his relief role.

UND outshot the Tigers, 30-21, marking just the second time this season CC has been outshot in consecutive games.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17, with an exhibition game against Simon Fraser at Robson Arena, beginning at 4 p.m.
