Tigers Capture Fourth CC Classic Title in Five Years

The Colorado College men's swimming and diving team captured its second consecutive CC Classic title and fourth in the last five years on Sunday at Schlessman Natatorium.

The Tigers finished with 1144 points, followed by the University of Colorado club team (635.5) and Adams State (534.5).

Sam Allen led CC once again, capturing two individual and three relay wins on Sunday. He won the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.71 seconds and the 200 butterfly in 1:56.01. Allen also swam on the victorious 200 medley, 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay teams. He joined Dax Sherwood, Logan Loveday and Edmund Davis to set a pool record in the 800 free relay in 7:01.44.

Sherwood also joined Allen on the 200 medley and 400 freestyle teams. Andrew Colgan and Liam McCarthy swam on the 200 medley, while Davis and McCarthy rounded out the 400 free team. Colgan also posted a pool record time of 56.08 in winning the 100 breaststroke.

McCarthy (50 freestyle), Loveday (200 freestyle) and Kole Petersen (400 IM) each posted an individual win on Sunday as well.

"Our focus this weekend was on how we want to prepare for championships, from warmups to recovery, and the team did an outstanding job committing to that process," head coach Jen Buffin said. "They stayed focused on every race and every session, and the energy on the deck was exactly what we wanted. That energy translated into fast swimming, great racing and teammates pushing each other to be better. Pool records and a team record are hard to achieve at this point in the season, and that speaks volumes about the leadership of our seniors and the standard they continue to set. I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished and excited for the next few weeks as we prepare for the SCAC Championships."

Colorado College returns to action at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, Feb. 11-14, in Garland, Texas.
