Augustana Downs Tigers

Brayden Schuurman and Philippe Blais-Savoie scored for Colorado College Saturday night, but Augustana secured the weekend sweep with a 4-2 victory in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Hayden Hennen scored twice and Christian Manz had 31 saves for the Vikings, who improved to 12-6-3, while the Tigers fell to 8-9-3.

Hennen opened the scoring with 1:13 remaining in the first period when his wrist shot from the right point found its way past a screened CC goalie Kaidan Mbereko.

The Vikings took a 2-0 lead within the first minute of the second period with their second shorthanded breakaway of the weekend. Hunter Bischoff took a lead pass from Jacob Jastrzebski and beat Mbereko just 35 seconds into the middle frame.

Will Howard made it 3-0 for the home team at the 9:45 mark of the second period, scoring on a partial breakaway with a backhander through Mbereko's legs.

The Tigers, who outshot Augustana 22-5 in the second period, got on the scoreboard when Schuurman scored his fourth of the season with a wrist shot from the left circle that cleanly beat Manz at 15:58 of the frame. Gavin Lindberg collected his eighth assist of the season, while Mats Lindgren posted his first career collegiate point.

Blais-Savoie then cut the deficit to 3-2 with his fourth goal of the campaign at 2:41 of the third period. After an Augustana player flipped the puck out of its own zone, Blais-Savioe caught it at center ice, moved to the right and fired a backhander from the right circle over the left shoulder of Manz.

Hennen sealed the game for Augustana with an empty-net goal in the final minute of the contest with the Vikings on the power play.

Mbereko finished with 20 saves as the Tigers held a 33-24 shot advantage, including 27-10 in the final 40 minutes. The Vikings were 1-for-2 on the power play, while CC was 0-for-5 with a man advantage.

The Tigers return home to resume NCHC play against 4th-ranked North Dakota, Jan. 9-10, at Robson Arena.
