Women's Soccer Heads to San Jose for Sunday Match

The Colorado College Tigers hit the road for the second time in conference play for a Sunday matinee at San Jose State. The Tigers hold first place in the Mountain West, starting the conference schedule 3-0-1 with wins over Hawaii, UC Davis and New Mexico at home, also with a road draw at Nevada.

LAST TIME OUT
Colorado College got off to a much better start against New Mexico than they had in their first three matches of Mountain West play, but still had nothing to show for it after the first half. Despite not finding the net, the Tigers were very dangerous in the first 45 against the Lobos, as they frequently held possession up the field and were getting quality shots towards the Lobo frame. In the second half, New Mexico looked like they were going to tip the scales on several occasions, but CC's defense did a great job of bending but not breaking to the attacking pressure. in the 79th minute, Nadia Cassamajor broke the ice with her first collegiate goal, with a stunning back-foot flick off a pass from Tyler Rose who crossed in from the far touch line. About a minute later, it was Rose herself scoring on assists from Kendall Memoly and Ella Ashouri as the Tigers followed 80 minutes of frustration with one minute with two goals. The Tigers, who entered the night with a narrow one point lead in first place in the Mountain West, successfully defended their home turf and build what is now a four point lead atop the conference after defeating UNM who was challenging for the top spot and also seeing Grand Canyon fall to Air Force as the Lopes could have stayed within three points of CC with a win.

ABOUT SAN JOSE
Three forwards are tied for the SJSU team lead in goals as Abigail Peterman, Indigo Sims, and Paige Pineda Aliamus all sit on two goals this fall. Peterman leads the team in total offense with an additional two assists for a six-point total. Sophia Daily is the other Spartan with two assists, tying Peterman for the team best in the facilitator category. The Spartans have only netted eight goals through 11 matches, which is worst in the Mountain West. They are the only team in the conference yet to reach double digit goals scored, as UC Davis with the next fewest sits at 12. Paige Fry is the expected starter for the Spartans in goal, who has played all 11 matches and started all but one. She has allowed 16 goals in those 11 matches, making 61 saves and earning two clean sheets on the season so far.

SERIES HISTORY
The Tigers face the Lobos for the 12th time this weekend in the Golden State. The Tigers are 3-8 in the all-time series against the Spartans and are 1-4 in road match ups. The Tigers, however, have won the last two meetings.
