12th-Ranked Tigers Fall to #17 UConn in Overtime

Ethan Gardula scored 1:31 into overtime to give 17th-ranked Connecticut a 3-2 victory over No. 12 Colorado College Friday night in Storrs, Ct.

Gardula, who scored twice on Friday, took a pass from Ethan Whitcombe and beat CC goalie Jackson Unger to complete a 2-on-1 rush and hand the Tigers their first loss of the season.

Unger tied his career high with 33 saves, while defensemen Philippe Blais-Savoie and Seth Constance scored for Colorado College (2-1).

Gardula opened the scoring 3:43 into the contest when he put home a rebound after a shot by Charlie Morrison was blocked and went right to Gardula, who beat Unger from the left side of the net.

Blais-Savoie evened the score with his second goal of the season at the 12:35 mark of the opening frame. Fisher Scott's shot from the right point blocked and the puck went to Blais-Savoie, who beat UConn goalie Kam Hendrickson with a wrist shot from the left point. Freshman Zach Olsen picked up the first point of his career with the secondary assist.

The Huskies (2-1) regained the lead when Lirim Amidovski scored with 1:16 remaining in the first period.

The Tigers tied it up once again when Constance scored his first of the season at the 9:19 mark of the middle period. Ty Halaburda won a faceoff in the UConn zone and Constance sent a blast from the right point that eluded Hendrickson.

Both goalies were solid for the next 30 minutes until Gardula won it in the extra period. Hendrickson finished with 27 saves as UConn outshot the Tigers, 36-29, including a 14-4 advantage in the first 20 minutes.

Each team was 0-for-2 on the power play and the Tigers have yet to allow a power-play goal this season.

The teams will battle again on Saturday, Oct. 17, beginning at 5 p.m. (ET).
