Philippe Blais-Savoie had a goal and an assist and
Jackson Unger made 22 saves to lead Colorado College to a sweep of No. 10 UMass with a 6-1 victory Saturday night at Ed Robson Arena.
Â
The Tigers posted their first weekend sweep over a ranked team since defeating No. 2 North Dakota on Feb. 16-17, 2024, at Robson Arena.
Â
Riley Stuart opened the scoring with his first goal of the season at the 18:18 mark of the first period. After a pair of Minutemen collided at the top of the UMass zone,
Ty Halaburda gathered the loose puck and found Stuart in front of the net. The senior assistant captain placed a backhander past UMass goalie Tobias Trejbal, giving Halaburda his first collegiate point.
Â
Drew Montgomery doubled the lead with his second goal in as many games midway through the middle frame. CC dumped the puck behind the UMass net and Trejbal played right to Montgomery, who put it in the net from behind the goal line.
Â
The Minutemen scored their first goal of the weekend with 5:01 left in the second period when Egor Barabanov placed a shot from the slot over Unger's right shoulder. CC responded less than a minute later thanks to a rocket from the point by
Philippe Blais-Savoie that beat Trejbal and sent him to the bench in favor of Jackson Irving.
Carmelo Crandell set Blais-Savoie up perfectly for his first point as a Tiger.
Â
UMass put the puck in the net early in the third period, but CC was successful with a challenge that the puck was directed in with a kicking motion. The Tigers put the game away with three goals in the third period, starting with
Bret Link's first of the season at the 10:27 mark of the final frame.
Â
Link broke down the right side and flew in on Irving, who stopped Link's first shot, but after a scrum, Link poked the puck past him to make it 4-1.
Â
Team captain
Max Burkholder scored his first goal since January of 2025 with a blast from the point that put CC ahead 5-1, then
Connor Hvidston scored with the Tigers on a 5-on-3 advantage with three minutes remaining for the final tally.
Â
Unger was outstanding for the second straight night, stopping 22 shots, including three on a pair of UMass power plays. Trejbal finished with 17 saves while Irving had 16.
Â
The Tigers host the U.S. National U-18 Development Team in an exhibition game on Friday, Oct. 9, at Robson Arena, beginning at 7 p.m.
