Tigers Fall To Hendrix In SCAC Tournament Semifinals

The Colorado College women's basketball team fell to Hendrix, 54-42, in the semifinal round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at Grove Gymnasium in Conway, Arkansas.

CC (20-6) battled throughout but struggled to find offensive rhythm, shooting 17-of-58 (29.3 percent) from the field and 3-of-26 (11.5 percent) from three-point range. Hendrix shot 19-of-66 (28.8 percent) overall and held a 53-38 advantage on the glass, converting 17 second-chance points compared to nine for CC.

Freshman Rayna Welsch led CC with eight points and eight rebounds, including seven offensive boards. Senior Kayla Mackel added seven points and three assists while playing all 40 minutes. Junior Isa Nelson finished with five points and seven rebounds, and sophomore Payton Gates chipped in seven points on 3-of-5 shooting and five rebounds off the bench.

The Tigers trailed 14-11 after one quarter and 25-18 at halftime. CC found a spark in the third period, outscoring Hendrix 15-12 and trimming the deficit to four at 37-33 heading into the fourth. Gates knocked down a key three during the stretch, while Mackel and Welsch combined for interior finishes as the Tigers shot 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) in the third quarter.

In the final period, CC went 3-of-16 from the floor and 0-of-8 from beyond the arc as Hendrix rebuilt a double-digit lead.

Hendrix was paced by Riley Brady, who recorded 16 points and 23 rebounds.

Despite the setback, CC secured its third straight 20-win season, marking the first time the program has achieved three consecutive 20-win campaigns since the 1980-81 season.

The Tigers now await a potential at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Monday.
