Colorado College earned a 72-57 victory over Schreiner on Sunday afternoon at Stephens Family Arena.
Colorado College (16-5, 11-1 SCAC) controlled the game from the opening tip and never trailed. CC led 19-6 after the first quarter and extended the margin to 39-25 at halftime.
The Tigers created separation in the second quarter, outscoring Schreiner 20-19 while maintaining defensive pressure that limited the Mountaineers to 40.4 percent shooting for the game. CC built its largest lead at 19 points early in the fourth quarter and led for 19:28 of game time.
Junior Naiya Kurnik led CC with a season-high 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and added seven rebounds. Kayla Mackel finished with 12 points and four assists, while Isa Nelson contributed 10 points and five assists. Avery Johnson added eight points and three rebounds.
CC shot 50.8 percent (30-59) from the field, including 26-of-47 from inside the arc. The Tigers outrebounded Schreiner 33-32 and scored 22 points in the paint. CC also held a 16-10 advantage in bench scoring.
Schreiner (3-18, 2-10 SCAC ) was paced by its starting lineup, which accounted for the majority of its offense.
With the win, CC remains atop the SCAC Gold Division standings at 11-1 and return home to host Concordia (TX) on Friday, Feb. 13.Â
