Charlotte Iler led all players with a career-high six goals and the
Ashley Johnson era at Colorado College opened with a dominating 19-3 victory over Johnson & Wales in the 2026 season opener Sunday afternoon at Washburn Field.
Â
Johnson is only the second head coach in the history of the CC women's lacrosse team, taking over in the offseason from Susan "Stuey' Stuart, who retired after 31 years.
Â
Iler made sure Johnson's debut was a success, scoring three times in the first period, including two in the final two minutes to give the Tigers a 9-0 lead after 15 minutes.
Â
Grace Bean added a couple of goals in the second period and CC held a 13-2 advantage at halftime. Iler scored the first two goals of the third period, followed by
Meghan Collins.
Â
Sofia Mancino added three goals, while freshmen
Maddie Jenks and
Elsa Greene scored twice, each collecting the first goal of her career, as did
Riley Sterling,
Paige Gerlach and Beatrice Nace.
Â
Cassidy Schnauffer made four saves in the first 45 minutes before giving way to freshman
Natalie Bernstein, who made three in her collegiate debut.
Â
The Tigers dominated every aspect of the contest, outshooting JWU, 36-13, and posting a 16-6 advantage in draw controls.
"I am absolutely thrilled how each individual stepped onto the field ready to go, it was a long preseason and we were finally ready go live," Johnson said. "I am so enamored by the confidence and composure our freshman played with, each one stepped on the field and made an immediate impact and had a big contribution to the end result. We have a younger team but you definitely couldn't tell today! Let's not forget the power of our senior class that stepped onto Washburn that wanted to make a statement for what's to come."
Â
CC returns to action on Thursday, March 5, against Kenyon College at Washburn Field, beginning at 4 p.m.
