Lenny Lehmitz and
Sam Lessard won singles matches for the Colorado College men's tennis team on Friday, but the Tigers dropped a 5-2 decision to Whitman College in Los Angeles, Calif.
Whitman swept the doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead.
Dominik Kaminski and
Justin Boder lost to Niklas Nordahl Jensen and Alexander Stage, 6-2, at the top spot, while Lehmitz and Lessard fell to Artem Manov and Charles Rush, 6-3, at No. 2.
Sam Dilworth and
Dylan Ferraro were downed by Hanri Luo and Guillermo Rodriguez, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot.
The Tigers battled back with Lehmitz and Lessard winning at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively, but Whitman captured three of the singles matches in three sets to clinch the team match.
Lehmitz defeated Jensen, 7-6(4), 6-3, at No. 2 while Lessard downed Rush, 6-2 4-6, 1-0(8) at the No, 5 spot. However, Kaminski lost the No. 1 match, 1-6, 7-5, 1-0(8) to Stage at No. 1, Dilworth fell to Manov, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0(7) at No. 3 and
Ross Cockrell lost the No. 4 match to Rodriguez, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0(2). Luo captured a 6-3, 6-1, victory over
Hudson Chris at No. 6.
The Tigers (4-4) wrap up their spring break trip with a pair of matches on Saturday, March 21, agaisnet Chapman University in Orange, Calif., beginning at 10 a.m. (PT), and No. 1-ranked Claremont -Mudd Scripps in Claremont, Calif., beginning at 6 p.m. (PT).
