Tigers Downed by No. 6 York College in NCAA Tournament

The Colorado College men's lacrosse team saw its 2026 season come to an end Saturday with a 11-4 loss to sixth-ranked York College of Pennsylvania in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Lynchburg, Va.

The Tigers had their six-game winning streak snapped and conclude the campaign with a 12-3 record. Playing as an independent this season, CC advanced to the Division III Tournament for the first time since 2023 and will join the NJAC next season.

On Saturday, York's Gavin Gismondi scored just eight seconds into the contest, but the Tigers rebounded with three consecutive goals by Matt Hudson, Aidan Niklaus and Logan Chapman to take a 3-1 lead with 10 minutes left in the first quarter. The Spartans scored twice, including one with seven seconds remaining, to even the score at 3-3 after 15 minutes.

Neither team scored in the second quarter as Tiger goalie Robert Spence made five saves, including one on a York man-up situation, and Spartan netminder Nash Womack saved both of CC's shots on goal in the frame.

York (19-1) pulled away in the third quarter, scoring three times in the first five minutes then adding a fourth with 10 seconds remaining to hold a 7-3 lead after 45 minutes of play. The Spartans put nine shots on goal in the frame, compared to four for the Tigers.

The fourth quarter was much of the same as York capitalized four times before Hudson scored his second of the game, a man-up goal, with 4:05 remaining.

Gismondi, Blake Morton and Cory Bergmann led the Spartans with two goals apiece, while Bergmann added three assists for a game-high five points.

York outshot the Tigers, 38-25 in total shots and 24-13 in shots on goal. Spence finished the game with 13 saves and Womack had nine.

"I could not be prouder of this team," head coach Mike Horowitz said. "The senior class has created a legacy that will last for a very long time. Our program is moving in the right direction and I can't wait for the fall."
