Tom Southall, a member of the Colorado College football and track & field teams from 1981-85, has been selected for induction into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame.
 Â
The
Class of 2026 will be formally introduced on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Broadmoor World Arena.
Â
Despite being born without a right arm below the elbow, Southall produced an outstanding athletic career at Colorado College, becoming a four-year letterwinner in football and track & field. In 1983, he became one of the nation's top Division III return specialists, setting NCAA career kickoff and punt return records while serving as team captain and was named team MVP. Â On the track, he established the school's long jump record of 24 feet as senior in 1985 that still stands today.
Â
Prior to attending CC, Southall was one of Colorado's most celebrated prep athletes, starring in football, basketball, and track & field at Steamboat Springs High School. He helped lead Steamboat Springs to the 1979 Class 2A state football championship while rushing for more than 2,100 yards and 30 touchdowns that season. He also helped the Sailors capture three consecutive Class 2A state track championships and set a state long jump record before earning the prestigious Fred Steinmark Award, presented to the state's top athlete.
Â
His accomplishments earned induction into the Colorado College Athletics Hall of Fame, Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, Colorado High School Activities Association Hall of Fame, and National High School Hall of Fame.
Â
Beyond competition, Southall devoted decades to teaching, coaching, and mentoring student-athletes throughout Colorado. Recognized as a state championship coach and educator, he became a leader in adaptive and Paralympic sports, working with athletes of all abilities and helping grow inclusive athletic opportunities.
Â
In addition to Southall, the 1982 Doherty High School men's soccer team, coached by former Tiger soccer player Jay Engeln, will be inducted this year. Engeln was a member of the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
