2013 SCAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Quotes

Southwestern University

Head Coach Bill Bowman

We’ve played Colorado College pretty close during the first parts of the last few games that we played them. Tufnell’s goal kind of stopped the bleeding and gave us a chance to get back to what we were trying to do and make it even on both sides. We had some opportunities.

Charlie Fisher was playing lights out and giving us a chance. Our defense was giving us a chance, too. We had some key injuries and that was putting some people in positions they weren’t used to playing and it showed. Colorado College was very well prepared and they were the better team today.

I feel like we’re pretty well conditioned, but we had a few less people because of injuries. We were asking some guys to play above their years of experience.

I think we made great strides this year. Obviously, Colorado College is the team we are looking to be. We want to be where they are and I think we’re making good strides to get to that point.

Southwestern and Colorado College have a good rivalry going and we’re going to continue to battle as much as we can to get where they are right now.

Freshman Goaltender Charlie Fisher

We felt fine after the first half, it wasn’t too big of a margin to overcome. We started to get on ourselves a little bit and then the wheels kind of fell off from there. Everybody was playing as hard as they could, it just didn’t work out for it.

The guys we are bring in next year are top-notch recruits. We stole a couple of Division I recruits. I’m really excited about next year and what we’re going to be able to accomplish with these guys coming in and the guys we have coming back. This is one of the closes teams I’ve ever played on. I’m really excited about what this program can do in the upcoming years.

It was a fast game, an up and down the field game. We’re a really well-conditioned team, but we were feeling it with the altitude.

Colorado College played hard the entire game. Props to them. They played the whole game. They’re really something, but we’ll come right back at ‘em next year.

Senior Attackman Jamie Long

It’s been an amazing experience, being able to make the transition with the club guys and being able to build and build during the last four years.

It didn’t turn out the way I wanted, but I’m really proud of the guys. We had a great season, this year and it’s awesome to see how far we have come.

We’ve come a long way in four years, and with the talent we’ve got coming in and the guys who are here now, everybody is willing to work hard and they’ve got it in their eye. They’re looking forward to it.

He (Tim Jenkins) played well, I wish I could have gave him more today. It’s been a long season, a long four years. It’s hard not to be injured.

Head Coach Sean Woods

"I didn't feel good about our practice tempo last time we played them. We came out and didn't play the most disciplined brand of lacrosse that we know how to play. We focused on the little things this week. Our guys really bought in to doing things the right way, at the right pace. And then it showed, in a great week of practice that led up to this. It was no surprise to the coaching staff that we played really well today, especially in the second half. I was happy with it."

Sophomore Midfielder Henri Halle

On Hall of Famer Ted talking to team before the game: “That meant a lot, actually, at least for me personally. He sounded like he was my size, my type of player, so it kind of hit home a little bit. I left there grinning from ear to ear. I've never smiled so much before a game. He really got us into it today, to leave it all on the field. That was his main message, to 'leave it all on the field.'"

“We had a great week of practice. We played them before, so we knew their whole game style. It was a big game, for the championship, and we just wanted to bring our 'A' game – which we did, at least in the second half. We really turned it around after the first half and played to our potential.”

Freshman defender Tim Jenkins

"He's (Jamie Long) a good player. He's got good speed. But defensively, we had a really good scouting report on him. We knew what he'd be trying to do, especially by the third game (we played them). I knew what he wanted to do with the ball, so it wasn't too much to handle."

"We knew we'd be fine if we played the game we wanted to play. We definitely were upset by those early goals, because there were some defensive breakdowns on our part. We sort of created offense for them. Once we had a good halftime meeting and sort of started to settle down, settle into the game, they didn't get much on us. It's really about our team defense and not breaking down in the second half."
