Drew Mitchell enters his second season in 2025-26 as the assistant coach for the Colorado College women's basketball team.
Mitchell joined the Tigers in the offseason before the 2024-25 season. In his first year, Mitchell helped lead the Tigers to a program-record 23 wins and their second-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the first since 1990. Along with head coach Katherine Auguste and assistant coach Lisa Guhl, Mitchell coached two-time All-American and SCAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, Zoë Tomlinson.
Last year, CC had five players named All-SCAC selections, including Tomlinson, who earned First-Team honors, and Kayla Mackel, who was named to the Second Team.
Mitchell's reputation is well-known around the Midwest coaching tree. He has spent years coaching numerous levels of basketball, from AAU to NCAA DI and DIII, a valuable experience Auguste believes will blend well with the winning culture established at CC.
Mitchell was recently in a similar role at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mitchell helped lead the Kohwawks to a 21-6 record in the 2023-24 season that was capped by an appearance in the semifinals of the American River Conference Tournament.
Prior to Coe, Mitchell was an assistant at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL, from 2018-2020 and then coached at Eureka College in Eureka, IL, from 2020-2022. While at Eureka, Mitchell assisted in various coaching roles, including coordinating offensive and defensive schemes, post-player skill development and numerous other administrative and game-related tasks.
Mitchell graduated with a master's degree from West Virginia in 2021. He also received his bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University, where he also served as a student assistant coach for two seasons, assisting the Leathernecks in their first-ever advancement to the NCAA Tournament in 2016-17.
