Carrick Patterson has been with the Colorado College volleyball program since 2003. His experience is broad and includes coaching both female and male athletes of all ages and skill levels to include: club, high school, collegiate, and Special Olympics.
His coaching career began in 1991 at Moorpark High School, Calif. As a young coach he guided the Musketeers Freshman/Sophomore team during the ’91 and ’92 seasons. In 1993, Patterson enjoyed coaching the Conejo Valley Special Olympic team to a gold medal in the State Championships. In 1994, Patterson was asked to return to his former club, Highline VBC as the 17-2 head coach and setter development coach. That year his team finished 21st at the 18 and Under Junior Olympic tournament. The following year he was fortunate enough to coach some highly competitive athletes and his 18-2 team placed 15th in the 18 and Under 1995 Junior Olympics. Patterson was also an assistant to the 18-1 team, coached by Chris Bruckner, that finished 5th at the same tournament.
Upon moving to Colorado in the summer of 1995, Patterson took a year off coaching to concentrate on his education and acclimate to life away from Southern California. In 1996, he was hired as RE-9 school district's Director of Volleyball. Over the course of the next two years he led Highland High School to an impressive 38-6 record and coached three All-State players. After graduation he moved to Colorado Springs and coached briefly with some local volleyball clubs. Most recently he coached Team Colorado VBC's 15, 16, and 17's National and Club teams. His teams were highly competitive winning numerous power tournaments, Rocky Mountain Regionals, and qualified for Junior Olympics. In effort to spend more time at home, Patterson shifted his focus and currently functions as TCV's Recruiting Coordinator.
In 2003, Patterson was hired by Colorado College as an assistant coach. Since that time he has worked with Head Coach Rick Swan developing a nationally recognized Division III program. Patterson primarily works offensively with the outside and right side attackers, serve receive ball control, and serving. He also has assisted with recruiting and evaluation, and is the director of the CC Prospect Camp. Patterson is the project lead with regard to leadership training for the program and team captain development. He has coached numerous players that earned AVCA All-American, NCAA West Region , and SCAC All Conference awards.
Since 2005, Patterson has also worked with USA Volleyball High Performance. He has functioned as a court coach, assistant training coach, assistant coach, and evaluator for the High Performance program. Most recently he was selected as an assistant coach for the 2012 Youth National Team Holiday Camp and Court Coach for the 2013 USA Girl's Youth National Team Tryout. Patterson is a CAP level II coach that strongly believes in game like training, developing confidence and leadership, and training outside comfort zones.
Patterson graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Geography and a minor in Kinesiology. Professionally he is a career fire lieutenant for the City of Colorado Springs Fire Department. Patterson and his wife, Sarah, reside in Colorado Springs with their daughter, Myah, and son, Garred.
