Tigers dominate, but fall to NWU

Nebraska Wesleyan converted on one of its two shots on goal to stun the Colorado College men's soccer team 1-0 on a wet and cold Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at CC's Stewart Field.

The Tigers, who dropped to 8-3-0 overall, were shut out for the second consecutive game and third time this season. The PrairieWolves improved to 7-4-1.

Freshman midfielder Jordan Green picked up a loose ball at the top of penalty area and his floater went just over the outstretched arm of Tiger goalkeeper Joey Wykowski in the 10th minute. It was Green's team-leading 11th goal of the year.

Colorado College dominated the rest of the game, but had nothing to show for it. CC finished with a 19-6 advantage in total shots and a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. The Tigers also had five corner kicks, while NWU had only two.

The game was marred by a series of yellow cards early in the second half, the last of which was the second on sophomore defender Wil Nelp and forced the Tigers to play a man down for the final 25 minutes.

Ironically, that was when CC was at its best. The Tigers pressured the PrairieWolves relentlessly, but the slippery conditions were not suited for CC's precision attack.

Nebraska Wesleyan was contend to wait for breakaway opportunities, but Wykowski came out of the net to break up a pair of scoring chances and a third was wasted when an NWU shot went over an open net.

CC's best scoring opportunity occurred in the 38th minute when senior forward Logan Boccard got behind the PrairieWolve's defense, but his chip shot from inside the penalty area went over goalkeeper Josh Miller but just outside the left post.

Miller finished with six saves for NWU, while Wykowski has just one for the Tigers.

Colorado College will play host to Westminster College on Sunday at 2 p.m.
