No. 3-ranked Colorado College officially begins defending its Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season championship this weekend when the Tigers play host to Michigan Tech in a two-game WCHA series at the World Arena .
Opening faceoff is 7:37 p.m. (MT) Friday and 7:07 p.m. Saturday.
The Huskies returns to Colorado Springs for the first time since eliminating CC from the league playoffs in March 2007. Tech still has never won, or even tied, a regular-season game against the Tigers at the CSWA.
Friday's contest marks the 167th all-time meeting between the teams in a rivalry that started on Jan. 17, 1947. Colorado College owns an 84-71-11 advantage in the series after tying and losing in Houghton, Mich., in its only games against the Huskies last season.
CC, which faced off the 2008-09 campaign at the World Arena last weekend with a non-conference sweep (1-0 and 5-3) of Alabama-Huntsville, now has won its season opener in seven consecutive seasons and in nine of 10 during Scott Owens' reign as head coach. The Tigers have not lost a home opener since 1992.
