Tigers drop tough 2-1 decision at Rice

Road loss drops CC out of third place

Colorado College struck first on the road Friday night, but it was not enough to hang on to third place in the Conference USA standings.

Erin Scott scored the go-ahead and game-winning goal early in the second half, lifting Rice University to a 2-1 victory over the Tigers in a key Conference USA match in Houston.

CC, which grabbed an early 1-0 lead on Tiffany Brown's eighth tally of the season just 8:20 into the contest, fell to 11-5-2 overall and 5-3-1 in league play. The Owls improved to 10-6-0 overall and 6-3-0 in the conference to pass the Tigers in the standings.

Brown, who remains the team's leading scorer, converted early off a header of Alexa Bannerman's cross. But Rice fought back to even things up at 27:06, when Alexa Coralli converted from close range after a free kick bounced loose deep inside the box. Christine Petric earned an assist on the goal.

The Tigers return home and play host to the University of Houston on Sunday in their final match of the season at Stewart Field, where they are 7-1-1 this fall.
