Tigers rally to knock off CU-Colorado Springs

Eliese Hansberry scored with 2.5 seconds remaining to give Colorado College a 69-67 victory at CU-Colorado Springs on Tuesday night in a non-conference game at the Lions' Den.

CC improved to 4-3 overall by winning its first road game of the season. UCCS dropped to 2-5.

Hansberry's off-balance jumper after fighting for an offensive rebound capped a remarkable comeback that saw the Tigers rally from a nine-point deficit in the final 3:35 to earn their first victory over the Division II Mountain Lions since a 77-74 decision on Jan. 8, 2003.

UCCS went up 66-57 when Nancy Hoist scored on a layup with 4:18 to play, but the CC defense stiffened and allowed just one point the rest of the way.

Melanie Auguste scored eight of her game-high 25 points during a 10-0 run that started with a pair of free throws by Emily Wattman-Turner. Jazzmin Awa-Williams tied the game on a free throw with 22 seconds remaining, but missed the second to give CC the opportunity to set up for the final shot.

After putting the Tigers ahead, Hansberry secured the victory with a steal as time expired.

Auguste completed her second double-double of the season by matching her season high of 14 rebounds. Hansberry finished with 16 points, while Wattman-Turner added a season-high 11 points.

Hoist and Mallory Lowe led the Mountain Lions with 12 points apiece. Awa-Williams had a team-high six rebounds.

The Tigers play host to UC Santa Cruz and Methodist University this Friday and Sunday, respectively, in the 2008 Colorado College Challenge at Reid Gymnasium.
