Freshman goaltender Joe Howe, who backstopped visiting Colorado College to a victory and tie at the University of Wisconsin last weekend, has been named Red Baron® WCHA Rookie of the Week for Oct. 20-26, 2009.

Howe stopped 65 of 68 Wisconsin shots on goal in the series for a .956 saves percentage, recorded four shutout periods – including one in overtime – and held the Badgers to just one power-play goal in 10 man-advantage opportunities.

He made 39 saves in Friday's 3-2 come-from-behind triumph at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis., then added 26 more in Saturday's 1-1 tie.  He remains undefeated this season at 2-0-1, and ranks second among WCHA goalies overall with a 1.62 goals-against average and .949 saves percentage.

The surprising Tigers, meanwhile, are just a point out of the WCHA lead heading into this week's two-game series at home against Michigan Tech, a team they've never lost to in regular-season action at the World Arena.

Faceoff is 7:37 p.m. MT Friday and 7:07 p.m. Saturday.

CC, 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in league play, is 87-71-12 all-time against Tech after going 3-0-1vs. the Huskies last season. Despite dropping a best-of-three first-round playoff series in 2007, the Tigers are 19-2 in 21 previous games against MTU at the World Arena, including a perfect 18-0 mark in regular-season action.

MTU, which was idle last week, is 1-1 overall heading into its league opener on Friday.
