Freshman forward
Matt Fechter was named 2009 Newcomer of the Year and was one of five Colorado College players to be honored by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Fechter was joined by senior forward Trevor Cobb and senior midfielder Jordan Reese on the All-SCAC First Team. Junior defender Wil Nelp was a second-team selection, while senior goalkeeper Brian Engle earned a spot on the third team.
A product of Westfield, N.J., Fechter led the Tigers and all first-year players in the SCAC with 11 goals and 25 points. He scored four times during a 6-1 victory over Oglethorpe University, including the first game winner of his career. That performance earned Fechter a second Player of the Week award.
Fechter received seven of the 12 first-place votes. Trinity's Chesley Farmer was second with two.
Cobb earned first-team honors for the second year in a row after finishing the season with four goals and four assists. He scored the deciding goal in victories over Southwestern University and Sewanee, and set up Reese's game-winning tallies against Milwaukee School of Engineering and Ripon College.
Reese set career highs with 10 goals, 12 assists and 32 points, all of which ranked among the SCAC's statistical leaders. He led the conference in assists, tied for third in points and was seventh in goals. Reese also led the Tigers with four game-winning goals and three game-winning assists.
Like Reese, Nelp earned all-conference honors for the first time. Not only did he anchor the CC defense, but he struck for a pair of goals – including the first game winner of his career – in a 4-0 victory over the University of Dallas.
Engle received all-SCAC honors for the second time despite an injury-plagued senior season. He ranked fifth in the conference averaging 4.62 saves per game, was seventh with three shutouts and eighth with a 1.26 goals-against average.
Colorado College finished the season with a 10-9-1 overall record and tied for third in the SCAC standings with a 6-4-0 mark.
