CC beats Hendrix for third straight victory

Tigers improve to 2-0 in SCAC play

It may have been just slightly more than a standard performance for Becky Luetjen, but Colorado College certainly reaped the rewards again on Sunday.

Luetjen matched her season average with 18 points and dominated the boards with a career-high 16 rebounds, helping the Tigers to a 93-82 victory over previously undefeated Hendrix College in an SCAC game at Reid Gymnasium.

Eliese Hansberry contributed 20 points and seven rebounds as CC improved to 5-1 for the season and 2-0 in league play with its third consecutive triumph.

Thirteen of Luetjen's rebounds came at the defensive end. The sophomore forward, who scored a career-high 29 points in Friday's 69-68 win over Millsaps, added four assists and a steal in Sunday's battle that saw both teams lead by as many as 13 points.

The visiting Warriors, who got 25 points and 12 rebounds from senior forward Christina Byler, rallied from behind to surge ahead, 76-74, on a layup by sophomore guard Samantha Devlin with 4:57 left to play. But Colorado College went on a 10-point run down the stretch and ended up outscoring Hendrix by a 19-6 margin the rest of the way.

Luetjen and Hansberry were among six Tigers scoring in double figures, as Alyssa Aldaz sank 15 points, Collier Clegg 14, Kalli-Anne Kemling 12 and Emily Wattman-Turner 10. Wattman-Turner added four assists and four steals.

Anna Roane and Avery Roller each had 13 points for Hendrix, which dropped to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the SCAC.

Colorado College goes on the road for the first time this season next weekend when the Tigers play at Bethany Lutheran and Crown College in Minnesota.
