Centre knocks Tigers out of SCAC tourney

Colorado College was knocked out of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament by Centre College on Friday night, bringing to an end the most successful season in almost 20 years and one of the greatest individual careers in the program's history.

The Tigers finished the season with a 16-9 record and recorded the program's most victories in a single season since the 1989-90 team posted a 17-9 record. The Colonels improved to 18-8 and will face Oglethorpe University in a semifinal matchup on Saturday afternoon.

In the final game of her career, Melanie Auguste led the Tigers with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season.

Chelsea Goodman scored 12 of her game-high 23 points early in the second half when Centre took control of the game with an 18-3 run. The Tigers cut the 15-point deficit to eight when Becky Luetjen drained a pair of free throws with 6:57, but that was as close as CC would get.

Colorado College made just 14 of 48 shots from the floor and finished with a .292 shooting percentage. Despite making only five of 25 field goal attempts in the first half, the Tigers led 22-21 after 20 minutes.

Emily Wattman-Turner made four of seven three-point attempts and finished with 12 points. Luetjen added nine points and tied her season high with nine rebounds.

Lauren Huter had 18 points and eight rebounds, while Maggie Prewitt added 13 points.

The all-SCAC basketball teams will be announced on Saturday afternoon.
