CC eliminated

Season ends with 3-1 loss to Bulldogs

With its scoring touch almost non-existent for the third consecutive outing, Colorado College quietly closed the book on its 2008-09 season Saturday.

Minnesota Duluth struck for a pair of first-period power-play goals, then rode the goaltending of junior Alex Stalock to a methodical 3-1 victory over CC that gave the visiting Bulldogs a sweep of their best-of-three first-round WCHA playoff series at the World Arena.

Down 2-0 with the contest barely 11 minutes old, the Tigers desperately tried to claw away and climbed back into contention on a power-play tally of their own – by senior left wing Scott McCulloch – late in the opening period. But that's all they could muster against Stalock, who finished with 29 saves after making 36 in Friday's 4-1 triumph.

It was the third consecutive game in which CC was held to a single goal.

Stalock even added a little insult to injury, picking up an assist on freshman Jack Connolly's tally that put Duluth ahead to stay just 4:47 into the contest. Nick Kemp added what turned out to be the game winner at 11:04, with Travis Oleksuk setting up both red lighters. Connolly also added an assist on Kemp's goal.

While Colorado College carried much of the play the rest of the night, Michael Gergen restored UMD's two-goal lead at 11:37 of the middle frame.

The Tigers finish the season with an overall record of 16-12-10.
