Alexa Dougherty scored four goals and
Jess Van Doren made 11 saves to lead Colorado College to a 10-7 victory over Denison University on Wednesday afternoon at Washburn Field.
The Tigers scored seven consecutive goals to turn a 2-0 deficit into a five-goal lead with 20:43 remaining in the second half. The Big Red used a 4-1 run to pull to within 8-6 with 12:24 to play, but the Tigers answered with goals from Kristin Rider and Grace Maloney to re-gain control.
Alex Thurner and Sara Langsam gave the Big Red a 2-0 lead 9:54 into the game, but CC tied the game with 9:27 remaining in the first half on the second free-position goal by Alexa by Dougherty.
The Tigers took the lead 36 seconds later when Ali Zarlengo scooped up the rebound of a shot by Grace Maloney and beat Amanda Wilson from close range.
Denison had a chance to tie the score with six minutes to play in the half, but Amanda Howards's free-position shot went wide of the far post despite having CC goaltender Jess Van Doren placed behind after being called for a foul.
Van Doren made six of her season-high saves in the first half when the Tigers struggled in the offensive zone.
During the first 23 minutes, Gioia Garden hit a pair of posts and the Tigers had goals by Bailey Terhune, Leslie Jacoby and Kristin Rider taken away.
Kristin Rider and Lindsay Chan each finished with two goals and an assist for CC. Garden had a pair of assists.
Phoebe Myhrum, Cassedy O'Neil and Thurner had two goals apiece for Denison (2-1). Wilson finished with eight saves.
Colorado College (6-1) will be back in action on Thursday when the Tigers play host to Fontbonne University at 4 p.m.
