On a perfect day for tennis, the Colorado College women's tennis team was nearly perfect while posting its second sweep of the season against Colorado State University-Pueblo.
The Tigers won all three doubles matches for the fifth time this season, dropping just seven points along the way. CC carried that momentum into singles play where the Tigers won each match in straight sets while giving up only nine points.
“Today was the best weather we have seen for a match all year,” head coach Perry Wright said. “Perfect conditions led to some great energy out on the court. While CSU was not extremely tough, it was good for our girls to get used to being comfortable in a match.”
Sally Bryant and Erin Yamamoto gave Colorado College the early momentum when they cruised past Cindy Boughton and Meagan Clark 8-1. Kelsey Smith and Deanna Thirkell were almost as dominant during their 8-2 triumph over Andrea Ortiz and Valerie Boughton.
The closest the Thunderwolves came to winning a point was at No. 1 doubles where Jordan Evans defeated Julie Wainwright and Tiffany Talmadge by an 8-4 count.
Bryant continued her impressive day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Cindy Boughton. Smith, Thirkell and Yamamoto lost just one game while posting victories 6-1, 6-0 wins against Talmadge, Ortiz and Clark.
Evans posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Wainwright at No. 1 singles, while Swenson had encountered little trouble en route to a 6-1, 6-2 win against Valerie Boughton.
“If we can carry the kind of confidence we had against today against some strong conference opponents, we should continue to see some success.” Wright said.
The Tigers will put their 6-5 record on the line this Friday when they play host to Division II Mesa State College at The Garden of the Gods Club.
