Aspen Young Named First Alternate for NCAA DIII Singles Tournament

Colorado College sophomore Aspen Young has been named the first alternate for the singles competition of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships.

The individual championships consists of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Any singles player or doubles team that scratches from the tournament will be replaced in sequential order by the published list of alternates. Young will be the first player selected if any of the 32 original participants withdraw from the tournament.

Young, from Niceville, Fla., is 22-4 overall this season in singles, including a 19-3 dual match record, all at the No. 1 position. She rolled through the SCAC regular season and tournament with a perfect 11-0 mark at the top spot and broke the school record for most singles wins in one season, surpassing Britt Swenson, who was 19-3 overall in 2008.

The draw for the individual championship will be done by the women's tennis committee and will be released on May 23 not before 1 p.m. Eastern time.

Young and the Tigers will make their second appearance at the NCAA Team Championships in program history on Friday, May 8, when they take on Pomona-Pitzer in the second round in Claremont, Calif., beginning at 9 a.m. (PT).

The team championship will take place May 20-23, while the individual championships will be May 24-27, both at the Champions Tennis Club, in Chattanooga, Tennessee; hosted by The University of the South.
