Senior midfielder Trevor Cobb and senior goalkeeper Brian Engle of the Colorado College men's soccer team added to their list of honors by earning a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Scholar All-West Region team.
Cobb, an anthropology major from Corrales, N.M., earlier received first-team all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference recognition after finishing the 2009 season with four goals and four assists. He was second on the team with a pair of game-winning goals and tied for second with four assists. He also finished fourth with four goals and 12 points.
CC's captain scored the deciding goal in victories over Southwestern University and Sewanee, and set up the game-winning tallies against Milwaukee School of Engineering and Ripon College.
Cobb was a four-year starter at midfield and forward, and earned first-team all-SCAC honors as a junior in 2008 when he scored a career-high four game-winning goals and finished with single-season highs of nine assists and 23 points.
Engle, a biochemistry major, earlier was a third-team all-SCAC selection. A product of Bend, Ore., he finished the season with a 6-6-1 record and was ranked among the conference leaders in several statistics. He was fifth with a .779 saves percentage, tied for fifth at 4.62 saves per game, seventh with three shutouts and eighth with a 1.26 goals-against average.
Engle earned first-team all-SCAC honors as a junior in 2008 when he led the conference with a 0.45 goals-against average and .886 saves percentage. He posted six shutouts, and his average of 0.55 shutouts per game was best in the conference.
The two-year starter completed his career with a 14-7-1 record and nine shutouts.
Both Cobb and Engle were named to the all-district team as part of the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America awards program.
Colorado College finished its 2009 campaign with a 10-9-1 overall record and finished in a tie with DePauw University for third in the conference standings at 6-4.
