Shooting worse than 30 percent from the floor, Colorado College missed a golden opportunity to move up in the SCAC standings on Saturday.
The Tigers sank only 21 of 72 field-goal attempts in their showdown with Western Division leader Austin College, and dropped a 65-60 decision at Reid Gym.
CC, now 8-5 overall and 2-3 in league play, stayed even with the Kangaroos most of the way in a game that saw the lead change hands on 11 occasions and was tied on 12. But, after grabbing a 55-53 advantage on a layup by
Becky Luetjen with 4:31 left to play, the home team misfired 10 times in a dozen tries while being outscored 12-5 the rest of the way.
Katy Williams led Austin with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Kersti Marusich added 17 points to help the Kangaroos improve to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Luetjen posted another double-double for the Tigers, with 17 points and 18 rebounds. She also dished out four assists.
Emily Wattman-Turner chipped in with 13 points and
Alyssa Aldaz had 12.
Between them, Williams and Marusich converted on nine of 17 shots from the field and 16 of 19 from the free-throw line. As a team, Colorado College sank just 12 of 19 charity tosses in the loss.
