CC rallies for 2-1 victory at Oglethorpe

Colorado College maintained its share of first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference by coming from behind for a 2-1 victory at Oglethorpe University on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers improved to 5-3-2 overall and 3-0-0 in the SCAC with their third consecutive victory. OU dropped to 4-3-1 overall and 0-3-0 in conference play.

Nick Williams gave the Stormy Petrels an early lead when he took a feed from Russell Thompson, who had penetrated on the left, pivoted and slipped a shot off his left foot past CC goalkeeper Andy McGhie.

It was the first goal the Tigers have allowed in conference play this season and snapped a scoreless streak of 293.14 that began during the opening minutes of the contest against Wheaton College on Sept. 20.

Colorado College got the equalizer during the 19th minute when Brandon Ogilvie's header went off the crossbar directly to Sean Parham, who scored on a header of his own for his second goal of the season.

Ogilvie extended his point-streak to five games with the assist, and it marked the third consecutive game in which the two newcomers have combined for a goal.

The Tigers took the lead in the 44th minute when Nick Lammers carried the ball into the box from the left flank and sent a pass through the crease that defected off Daniel Wright and went to Matt Fechter, who scored with a shot toward the right post that went just past the out-stretched hands of Jon Beaver.

It proved to be Fechter's second game-winning goal this season and the third of his career.

The Petrels nearly tied the game approximately 45 minutes later, but CC defender Chris Lutz scissor-kicked a ball away from the goal line.

The save of the game occurred with 12 minutes remaining in the second half when McGhie made a lunging stop on what Colorado College head coach Horst Richardson described as a laser off the foot of Williams that was headed for the upper right corner.

McGhie finished with three saves, while Beaver made four stops.

Each team finished with 13 total shots.

Colorado College plays the second of four consecutive road games on Sunday at Sewanee.
