Led again by junior sensation
Jackson Brainerd, Colorado College continued to demonstrate on Saturday why it belongs among the elite cross country programs in the entire region.
The Tigers claimed fourth place among 15 non-Division I teams competing in Boulder at the University of Colorado's annual Rocky Mountain Shootout, finishing behind DII powerhouses Adams State, Western State and Metro State.
Brainerd, who has paced CC at every meet so far this season after earning Division III All-America honors a year ago, completed the 8K course in 25:37 to wind up 11th individually in a field of 280 runners representing nearly 20 schools including CU, Air Force, Northern Colorado and the University of Wyoming. He was sixth among non-Division I entrants.
Joining Brainerd in Colorado College's top five were senior
Andrew Wagner, whose 26:51 clocking was 52 overall and 24th in the non-DI ranks; junior
Max Gerken, with a 27:39 (90/35); junior
David Wilder, with a 27:47 (101/39); and senior
Dan Kraft, with a 27:50 (105/41).
With 145 points, the Tigers prevailed over a number of Division II teams such as New Mexico Highlands (154), Colorado School of Mines (192), Fort Lewis College (212) and CU-Colorado Springs (216) – just to name a few.
