Senior right wing
Stephen Schultz, who recorded a career-high five points in last Saturday's 9-2 home-ice victory over the University of Denver, was named WCHA co-Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Schultz's first of two goals in the romp, at 6:35 of the second period, gave the Tigers a lead they never relinquished after falling behind 1-0 in the opening frame of their series finale with DU. The 5-11, 183-pound native of Westbury, N.Y., added three assists in the game, including one on the game-winning tally by freshman left wing
Jaden Schwartz.
Schultz also scored CC's only goal in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Pioneers at Magness Arena, giving him six points for the weekend.
Energized by Saturday's offensive explosion, Schultz and his teammates try to ride the momentum into this weekend's non-conference games against Air Force and Yale University. Colorado College takes on the Falcons in a 7:05 p.m. (MT) contest Friday at AFA's Cadet Ice Arena, then returns to the World Arena on Saturday to face No. 3-ranked Yale in a 7:07 p.m. affair.
The Tigers are 4-5-1 overall and 2-4 in WCHA play after last week's split with Denver. They are a remarkable 30-1-1 against Air Force since the 1985-86 season but dropped a 4-1 decision in their last trip to the academy during the 2008-09 campaign.
The Falcons currently are 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the Atlantic Hockey Association.
Yale, meanwhile, is a perfect 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC). The Bulldogs earned an NCAA playoff bid last spring and reached the second round of the tournament.
The first CC player to earn Player of the Week honors this season, Schultz shares the Offensive POW distinction with sophomore forward Jordan George of Bemidji State, who also picked up six points in his team's split at St. Cloud State.
