Sophomore forward Kalli Kemling scored 17 of her 20 points in the second half to lead Colorado College to a 76-66 victory over Trinity University on Friday afternoon at Reid Gymnasium.
Kemling made all three of her three-point baskets during the second frame, including the last one which put the home team up 65-55 with 3:57 to go after TU had cut its deficit to just four points with 5:09 remaining.
CC built a 13-point lead after Kalli Kemling completed an old-fashioned three-point play with 13:20 to go, but Trinity used a 14-5 run to pull to within 50-46 with 8:57 to play.
After Jana Tucker drained a three-pointer from the left baseline to pull TU to within 53-49, Becky Luetjen answered with five consecutive points to extend the lead back to nine points
Luetjen finished with a game-high 26 points, the fourth time she has scored 20 or more points in a game this season. Luetjen also had a team-high nine rebounds and dished out a game-high five assists.
Trinity built a 28-23 lead with 1:38 remaining in the first half when Abby Dietert sank a pair of free throws for two of her team-leading 19 points. Layups by Kemling and Luetjen pulled Colorado College to within one, and Marissa Gradoz scored with 22 seconds to play to give CC a 29-28 halftime lead
Tucker's layup 23 seconds into the second half put TU back in front, but Colorado College went ahead for good when Kemling scored five points during an 8-0 run.
CC's Marissa Gradoz hit all six of her free throws and finished with 10 points, the second time this season she scored in double figures
Libby Kruse grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for Trinity.
Colorado College improved to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. TU slipped to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
CC returns to action on Sunday when the Tigers play host to Southwestern University in a SCAC contest at 1 p.m.
